Your bike stops. Maybe the engine seized on the way to work, maybe you went down on a wet corner, maybe the chain snapped ten kilometres from anywhere. Whatever happened, you are now standing on the side of a road with a machine that will not move.
Breakdown.lk moves it. We run motorcycle towing and bike recovery across Sri Lanka, twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year. One phone call, one crew, and your motorcycle gets to your home, your mechanic or your dealer without a single new scratch on it.
Call 071 350 5087 — we answer at 3am the same way we answer at 3pm.
When You Need Motorcycle Towing
Most riders only think about towing after something has already gone wrong. These are the calls we take most often:
Engine seizure or major mechanical failure. A seized engine locks the rear wheel. Pushing a bike in that state drags the tyre flat and can wreck the gearbox further. It needs to be carried, not rolled.
Accident recovery. After a fall, the priority is you — not the bike. Once you are safe and the police report is handled, call us. We collect the motorcycle from the roadside, from the police station yard, or from wherever it ended up, and take it to your chosen garage.
Flat battery that will not restart. Sometimes a jump start solves it in five minutes and you ride away. When the battery is genuinely dead or the charging system has failed, the bike goes on the truck instead.
Snapped chain, seized brakes, gearbox failure. Anything that locks a wheel means the bike cannot be pushed any real distance without damage.
Out of fuel far from a station. Usually a fuel delivery job, not a towing job. Call and describe the situation — we will send whichever is cheaper for you.
Long-distance transport. Moving a bike from Colombo to Kandy, Galle to Jaffna, or anywhere else on the island. Buyers collecting a bike they bought online, riders relocating for work, owners sending a machine to a specialist workshop.
Expressway breakdowns. Motorcycles are not permitted on the Southern or Outer Circular Expressway, so bikes break down on the parallel roads that carry the overflow traffic. Those are busy, fast and dangerous stretches. Get off the carriageway and call.
Restoration and project bikes. Classic machines that have not run in years, bought at auction or from a shed. They need to be strapped and carried, not started and ridden.
Why Motorcycles Need Different Equipment
A car has four wheels and sits on a flatbed without help. A motorcycle has two, and the moment the engine is off it wants to fall over.
Towing a bike properly needs a loading ramp, a front wheel chock to hold it upright, and soft straps at four points that pull the suspension down and hold it under tension for the whole journey. Skip any of that and you arrive with a bent lever, a cracked fairing, a scraped tank, or worse.
We have seen bikes turn up on the back of general goods lorries lying on their side on a blanket, with fuel and oil leaking into the engine bay. We do not do that. Your motorcycle travels upright, chocked and strapped, the same way it left you.
We also do not tow motorcycles by rope behind another vehicle. It is illegal, it is unsafe, and it damages the transmission.
What We Carry
Every kind of two-wheeler and three-wheeler on Sri Lankan roads:
- Commuter motorcycles — Bajaj, Hero, TVS, Honda, Yamaha
- Scooters and mopeds — Dio, Access, Ray, Pleasure
- Sports and touring bikes — Ninja, R15, Duke, Gixxer, CBR
- Off-road and adventure machines — Himalayan, dirt and trail bikes
- Classic and restoration projects, including bikes that have not run in decades
- Three-wheelers, where a full tow truck is the better tool
- Electric bikes and scooters, including ones with a flat or failed battery pack
If you are not sure whether we can carry yours, describe it on the phone. We will tell you straight away.
How It Works
1. You call. 071 350 5087. Tell us where you are, what the bike is, and what happened. If you can, send a location pin on WhatsApp to the same number — it saves the crew guessing.
2. We quote. You get a figure before anything moves. No arriving on scene and inventing a number.
3. We dispatch. The nearest available crew heads to you. We tell you roughly how long, and if traffic changes that, we call you back rather than leaving you wondering.
4. We load and deliver. Ramp down, bike chocked, four-point straps, and away. You can ride in the cab with us or meet us at the destination.
Where We Cover
Breakdown.lk operates island-wide. Motorcycle recovery is available across the Western Province, along the Southern coastal belt, through the Central Province hill roads, and on the main routes north and east.
We take a heavy volume of bike calls out of Colombo and the surrounding suburbs, where commuter traffic is densest. If you break down in Maharagama the same crew usually also covers Kottawa and Pannipitiya, so response times in that whole belt are short. The same applies across Nugegoda, Dehiwala and Mount Lavinia, and out along the High Level Road towards Kaduwela and Malabe.
Outside those areas, we still come. Rural and long-distance jobs simply take longer to reach you, and we will give you an honest arrival window rather than an optimistic one.
For cars, vans, cabs and larger vehicles, see our main breakdown service, recovery service and vehicle recovery pages.
While You Wait — Stay Safe
A rider standing next to a stopped bike is one of the most exposed things on a Sri Lankan road. Six things worth doing:
- Get the bike fully off the carriageway, onto the shoulder or a side road, before you do anything else.
- Stand well away from the bike and away from traffic — never between the machine and oncoming vehicles.
- Switch the hazards on if it has them. At night, keep the parking light on if the battery allows.
- Wear your helmet and keep your jacket on. Bright clothing is easier to see.
- Take photos of the bike and the location, especially after an accident. Insurers ask.
- Take your documents, phone, keys and anything valuable off the bike before it goes on the truck.
Why Riders Call Breakdown.lk
We answer. Twenty-four hours. Not an office line that goes to voicemail after six.
We treat bikes as bikes. Correct equipment, correct strapping, every job. Your motorcycle is not cargo.
We quote before we move. You know the number in advance.
Island-wide network. Sri Lanka’s largest roadside assistance network means a crew is usually closer than you expect.
One number for everything. Bike towing today, flat tyre assistance or a vehicle lockout next month — same phone number, same people.
